As Techdows reports, the new feature should allow unique and strong passwords to be set for different accounts. With the possibility of informing the user about the disclosed passwords, Microsoft wants to improve user security. The new password generator can only be used if the user has previously signed in with their Microsoft account and activated synchronization.
In order to be able to use the suggested passwords, the function must first be activated in the browser settings. The option required for this can be found under “Passwords” in the “Profile” menu. After clicking on the corresponding button, the browser must still be restarted. Suggested passwords appear whenever a registration form needs to be completed on a website. The generated password is automatically saved and synchronized with Microsoft servers. It is therefore not necessary to write down the password.
Function integrated in Dev and Canary versions only
For now, the new password generator is only available in the dev and canary versions of the Chromium-based browser. Experimental versions are updated periodically and can be downloaded from this page. If there are no issues with the feature in the next few weeks, the update should ship to all other Edge users soon.
