Official documents say Nintendo is working on a new type of Joy-Con that removes the well-known slider mechanism from the Switch console. The controller is rumored to be paired with the expected Switch Pro.

Another Nintendo patent has appeared in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) databases (via Game Rant) describing a new Joy-Con. Unlike the current hybrid gamepad, which can be used both on the Nintendo Switch and externally, the patented ideas suggest a completely self-contained wireless controller. An option of mounting or loading via the console is not considered. The “new” design, which Nintendo introduced two years ago, is now sparking speculation.

New accessories for the Switch Lite or even the Switch Pro?

Since the drift problem, it seems logical that the manufacturer is considering the new development of the Joy-Cons. Stand-alone gamepads would be particularly suited to the Nintendo Switch Lite, which was introduced last year, as the controllers that are permanently integrated here, unlike classic Joy-Cons, dispense with HD vibration and the camera. IR motion. For games that need these functions, the normal Nintendo Switch dual controller pack has so far been used, the slider mechanism of which is superfluous for the lite version.

However, speculation is not just about new accessories for the Nintendo Switch (Lite), but also possible signs of the often-discussed Switch Pro. According to experts, a more powerful Nintendo console could play a role next year. There is even talk of games in high resolution 4K. However, predictions and rumors of this type are not yet confirmed. If the Joy-Con ideas that have emerged are in fact associated with a Nintendo Switch Pro, the current hybrid concept is unlikely to work. A stationary console design positioned parallel to the Switch and the portable Switch Lite would also be an option.

Finally, it should be mentioned that patents of this type do not necessarily have to be materialized by Nintendo. In the last few months, among other things, documents for Joy-Cons with an integrated pen and flexible structure have been released, of which there is (still) no trace.
