the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is in the starting blocks and should give the S20 series another boost with very decent equipment at a relatively low price and a colorful selection of colors. we now all details and photos in advance.

Following last year’s S10 Lite, Samsung will soon be adding an additional variant of its flagship spring smartphones with the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE). The Galaxy S20 FE is apparently even better equipped than the normal Note 20, as our specs show.

Galaxy S20 FE: 4G version with Exynos, 5G version with Snapdragon

Unlike the “normal” S20 models at the start of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) will also be available in Germany in a version with the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Octacore be had. However, this only applies to 5G compatible output. If you choose the 4G model which is also planned, you have to go with the unloved Samsung Exynos 990 octa-core chip get by, which is repeatedly criticized for its poor performance and efficiency.

So unlike its sister models in the S20 series in Europe, the S20 FE is also available with the Qualcomm chip, which Samsung typically only offers in the US and a few other regions. However, you also pay for it. The main memory is still six gigabytes, at least in Europe, while the internal flash memory holds 128 gigabytes.

120 Hertz flat panel display based on SuperAMOLED

Apart from the platform used, the Galaxy S20 FE 4G and Galaxy S20 FE 5G do not differ. A 6.5-inch SuperAMOLED-based flat screen is still installed with a relatively small hole for the front camera, which delivers stretched Full HD resolution with 2400 x 1080 pixels. It thus achieves a pixel density of 407 PPI, which is by no means exceptional, but which is certainly quite sufficient for most users.

The Galaxy S20 FE’s display has a big advantage over the probably even more expensive Galaxy Note 20 standard model. While the cheaper of the two new Note devices only work at a maximum of 60 Hertz, the S20FE even achieves a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hertz. This ensures a smoother display of moving content such as games or scrolling web content.

In order to keep costs down, Samsung “only” gave the Galaxy S20 FE panel a Gorilla Glass 3 shell. The panel does not have a backward curved bezel and is generally on par with the Galaxy S20 Plus. The fingerprint reader sits directly below the display surface, although it’s still open, whether it’s an ultrasonic sensor again or the classic optical version.

The new large main camera sensor and optical image stabilizer

For cameras, Samsung uses a triple-cam configuration of a 12-megapixel sensor for the main camera with an f / 1.8 aperture and an edge length in pixels of an impressive 1.8 microns in the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition. The main camera is obviously the one built into the regular Note 20, as it has dual-phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilizer.

Galaxy S20 FE has a new larger 12-megapixel sensor for the main camera

The wide-angle camera of the S20 FE also has a resolution of 12 megapixels and offers a 123-degree field of view and an f / 2.2 aperture. The pixel edge length of the fixed focus sensor is given as 1.12 micrometers. There is also a zoom camera with three times magnification, which works with eight megapixels and has an f / 2.0 aperture.

This sensor has a pixel edge length of one micrometer and, in addition to autofocus, also has an optical image stabilizer. The front camera works with an impressive 32 megapixels and sits in a relatively very small hole directly below the top edge of the screen. The maximum aperture size is given by f / 2.0. Thanks to the powerful image processors of SoCs from Samsung and Qualcomm, you can also shoot 4K videos with the Galaxy S20 FE.

The matt back lets hope for the right choice of material

The equipment of the S20 FE also includes WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and wireless charging, including reverse charging. There are two stereo speakers with optimization by AKG and a metal frame. We don’t know, however, if Samsung will use a “Glasstic” back instead of glass. However, the matte appearance of the back suggests glass as a material. After all, the S20 FE is still IP68 certified and therefore classified as waterproof and dustproof.

The 4500mAh battery is large enough in both variants and therefore corresponds to what is known about the Galaxy S20 +. It can also be charged quickly using a suitable power supply via the USB Type-C port, although Samsung only includes a 15-watt adapter in Europe. The Galaxy S20 FE is 8.4 millimeters thick and weighs 190 grams.

In order to appeal to the widest possible audience, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be offered from the start in an extremely wide color range which has recently been rather atypical for Samsung. In addition to classics such as white and blue, this also includes models in orange, lavender, green and red. The availability of color variants may vary depending on the model, so for example, the black version “Navy Blue” might only be available as a 5G model.

We have not yet received official information on the price and availability of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, equipped with Android 10 and Samsung One UI 2.x. An introduction is currently expected in late September or early October 2020.
