Files of any format and size can also be transferred with Skype. This can be, for example, vacation photos or a presentation that can be shared with individuals or all participants in a group. You can also send short video messages to your friends even if they are offline. You can even share your own screen with your friends and colleagues via Skype. This is possible with up to ten participants at the same time – ideal if you want to make a presentation on the Internet.
SkypeIn and SkypeOut
But Microsoft wants to offer more than just an online communication tool with Skype: for a fee, you can also call landlines around the world and send SMS (SkypeOut) via Skype. You can also buy a Skype number and be reachable on any landline phone anywhere in the world (SkypeIn). When you are offline, Skype can route incoming calls to a landline or mobile number. However, there is also a charge for this.
Skype Translator as a Windows 10 app
With the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft ditched the “modern” version of the app. In the meantime, however, a preview version of Skype Translator can be downloaded from the Windows Store, which contains all the functions of the old app and can translate video and voice calls as well.
It’s new in Skype
In version 8, Skype also supports HD video calling, even in groups, and the ability to transfer files by drag and drop. Already shared media files can be found faster using the gallery built into the software. A lot has visually changed with Skype as well, which means the user interface now looks a lot more modern. The classic design of previous versions is therefore finally discarded.
