Yes, you read that correctly, the Mi 10 family is growing again with the Xiaomi Mi 10. Although we have indeed arrived at the Mi 11 (for the test), that does not prevent Xiaomi from extending the Mi 10 series. Now we want to take a closer look at what the Xiaomi Mi 10 has to offer and why we can still see a Mi 10 device.
Design and display
This shows the first connection to the Mi 10 series. The design of the heavy Mi 10 162 x 75 x 9 mm and 208g is strongly reminiscent of the Mi 10 Ultra. You can save yourself the transparent back and use black, white, or plain blue instead, but the massive camera hill looks quite familiar to us. The same goes for the forehead. Unfortunately, some might say, because in addition to the display size of 6.67 in inherits this AMOLED display Mi 10 also the curved edges of the Mi 10 Ultra. What it doesn’t inherit is the high refresh rate of 120Hz. Instead, there’s 90Hz with a sample rate of 180Hz. This could be a good compromise, in our investigation. , over 86% of you said 90Hz or less is good enough for you.
In terms of resolution, the Xiaomi Mi 10s returns to the Ultra model, 2340 x 1080 pixels correspond to Full HD and a pixel density of 386 pixels per inch. Combined with a maximum brightness of 1200nit, Gorilla Glas 5 and a small perforation notch in the upper left corner, the Mi 10s gets a true top display. Some may complain about the 90Hz, but the 90 / 120Hz difference is much less than 60 / 90Hz and like the rest looks very convincing, we’re sticking to a very good estimate.
Performance and system of Xiaomi Mi 10s
It remains to be seen how well this will bring in practice. The Mi 10 Ultra with Snapdragon 865, for example, gets a higher Antutu score than the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro with Snapdragon 865+. Real life performance is much more important. It should continue to be great. Only very few people should notice a difference from the current top model, the Snapdragon 888, when using a Snapdragon 870 mobile phone. The processor of the Xiaomi Mi 10s will perform very well for years to come and currently playing even the most demanding 3D game without any issues.
On the side is the Snapdragon 870 8 or even 12 gigabytes of super-fast LPDDR5 RAM. Also there are 128 or 256 GB as ultra-fast UFS 3.0 flash memory. It can’t be scaled up, just a typical flagship. MIUI 12 based on Android 11 is then available for delivery.
Mi 10s camera
We have already mentioned it at the beginning, the camera module of the Mi 10 is reminiscent of that of the Ultra. If you look closely, this unfortunately turns out to be a purely visual similarity. The Mi 10 Ultra and Mi 10 do not share a single sensor, and the tasks of individual cameras are also different. The Xiaomi Mi 10s comes with four sensors, two of which unfortunately turn out to be a depth of field sensor and a macro lens. We traditionally assign both to a subordinate role here. The remaining sensors are the main camera and an ultra wide angle camera. This then results in the following configuration:
- Main camera: 108MP, OIS
- Ultra wide angle camera: 13MP, f2.4, 123 °
- Macro camera: f2.4
- Depth of field sensor: f2.4
4K video recordings are possible with up to 60fps, 8K is also included, but only up to 30fps. A 20MP front camera is responsible for the selfies.
Connectivity and battery
- 5G: n1 / n3 / n41 / n78 / n79
- 4G: FDD-LTE: B1 / B2 / B3 / B4 / B5 / B7 / B8 / B12 / B17
Especially O2 and Vodafone customers, the fun with the device is likely to be spoiled by the lack of LTE reception. Incidentally, VoLTE supports the device with both cards.
Otherwise, there is a wide range of wireless connection options in the Mi 10. Dual-band WiFi 6 is supported, Bluetooth is available in 5.1 standard, NFC is also included, as well as location determination via Beidou, GPS, Galileo and Glonass. The Mi 10s is also equipped with an infrared emitter.
In terms of audio playback, Xiaomi has really worked hard. AptX and aptX HD are supported, as well as true stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. So we can expect excellent sound. Unfortunately, Xiaomi registers a 3.5mm headphone jack.
When it comes to the fingerprint sensor, Xiaomi is surprisingly covered. We initially assume a sensor in the screen, but it could also be that Xiaomi places it in the power switch. Otherwise, there is a distance sensor, acceleration sensor, gyroscope, compass, Hall sensor and light sensor. Xiaomi particularly highlights the linear motors, responsible for vibrations.
The Mi 10 has one 4780 mAh big battery. This can be charged with a cable 33 watts and wireless with 30 watts. The Mi 10s also supports QuickCharge 4.0 and PD 3.0. Compared to the Mi 10 Pro, 33 watts is only half, and the Mi 10 Ultra only a quarter. So you can say that Xiaomi considers the charging speed to be a real premium feature. Still, we’re surprised that wireless charging is on the equipment list.
Rating and price – Xiaomi Mi 10s
The Xiaomi Mi 10s is only available in China at the moment. There, the 8/128 GB version costs € 426, the 8/126 GB version costs € 452 and the 12/256 GB version costs € 490. This means that the Mi10 is around € 100 cheaper in China than the Xiaomi Mi 11. If you compare it to that, the Mi 10 looks to be quite worth it at this price point.
You have to do without 2K and 120Hz for display and processor power. In addition, the Mi 11 charges almost twice as fast. These are all features that you can safely do without. Maybe apart from the loading speed. But then the missing volume 20 comes in and throws us a huge wrench in the works. That might change with a Global version, but it would also change the price and we would have to discuss everything again. But it is already a step ahead, because we do not yet know about a global launch. In China, this device is probably the most competitive of the Redmi K40 Pro and we will probably get it soon in Europe as the Poco F3 Pro.
If you compare the Xiaomi Mi 10 with one of the emerging value-for-money champions, the Redmi Note 10 Pro, the price is put into perspective. Just know that the Mi 10s is a flagship of Xiaomi and you just pay more for it than with the Poco and Redmi sub-brands. Where only wireless charging, for example Xiaomi brand is offered exclusively.
