It’s the best smartwatch in the line, but there aren’t any new features or new hardware. Then there’s the Zepp E like E Square or E Circle – depending on whether you prefer a square or round display. The Zepp E looks more like a modern smartwatch and costs € 249 in Europe. We’ve presented it before at this point – a top-of-the-line Amazfit watch with a, particularly sleek look.
Design and display
The Zepp Z looks really good: The titanium case has a brushed metal look with an integrated digital bezel. The “NTC-Nanotech-Sealing” makes the case scratch resistant. The strap is made of leather with chic contrast stitching and a classic pin buckle. The Zepp Z is waterproof up to five bars of pressure.
The round AMOLED The front screen measures diagonally 1.39 inches and has a pixel density of 326 PPI, with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels. Thanks to the always-on display, the time can be read at any time and personal style can be expressed with more than 50 dials.
Amazfit Zepp Z hardware and features
At the bottom of the Zepp Z is the known optical sensor from Amazfit “BioTracker 2.0 PPG” installed to measure pulse and SpO² value. The data is then presented in the Zepp app and can access multiple services through the software. So there is PAI Health Assessment System Information about personal activities and evaluates them. The Zepp Z can record sleep status during periods of deep, light and REM sleep and provides sleep analysis. An “ECG” version is supposed to follow later, which features an EKG to more accurately record the activities of heart muscle fibers.
Bluetooth 5.0 is built-in to connect to the smartphone, and the Zepp app – in the Google Play Store – is required to use the watch. A motion and acceleration sensor is available for sports and activity tracking. GPS including GLONASS is also used to accurately record routes. The Zepp Z can follow twelve sport modes.
You already know from Amazfit Volume 6, the best Mi Band 5, Alexa also comes on the Amazfit Z – But a little later via the OTA update. Alexa is built in to control smart home controls, timer, reminder and more easily from the wrist by voice. Music from the smartphone can also be controlled directly on the Zepp Z.
Drums: With the 340mAh battery, the Zepp Z is expected to last up to 15 days with typical daily use and over 30 days with single use in power saving mode.
Amazfit has yet to take care of a payment service provider in Europe, as contactless payments currently cannot be made with an Amazfit smartwatch, either with NFC or without NFC.
Our appreciation
There aren’t necessarily a lot of premium models among Android Wear smartwatches. For the Apple Watch Series 6 it goes from € 418 to € 760 to € 1,540 and now Huami ships with the Zepp Z for € 350 for the (essentially the same) range of functions: The big one Wallet it won’t itch – everyone gets a little exclusivity and bonus! But a smartwatch, no matter how expensive, will quickly become obsolete, whether thanks to software or a bigger battery.
It is gratifying that the portfolio has been expanded – now under a new name. But will he be able to make the smartwatch market disappear? Probably not: new trends show that demand is still not being met, but the competition also offers corresponding models in the price range: the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro for 230 €, the Honor Magic Watch 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3.
