To start a meeting, a person needs a moderator license. The moderator can then invite other participants directly through the software. They receive a link as well as the meeting identifier and a password as access data; however, participants do not need to register with Zoom.

During a meeting, users can use a connected microphone to communicate with each other via voice and a webcam or use text chat. File exchange is also possible. This makes the tool an alternative to programs such as Microsoft Skype. Zoom uses SSL and AES 256-bit encryption for secure communication.

Free screen sharing with zoom

A primary function of Zoom Cloud Meetings is screen sharing. The moderator of a meeting can use the software to share their entire screen, a section, or just a picture of any running application with other participants.
